RUCO Druckfarben reported a good year in 2017, and with more innovations from its R&D team, is looking ahead to a strong 2018.
Among its successful new products are its 937LED and 955LED-LM, two new LED screenprinting ink series. The 937LED is a two-component ink series designed for decorating glass, ceramics and metal. It is versatile, as it can be cured using UV LED or conventional UV lamps. The 955LED-LM is a low migration, silicone-free LED curable ink series created for printing on plastic containers.
At LabelExpo Europe 2017, RUCO introduced its low-migration UVFX-LM flexo printing inks, which are free from ITX, Benzophenone, 4-Methylbenzophenone and silicone. They offer high color strength and brilliance and feature excellent chemical resistance, the company reports. RUCO’s new UVFX-LED inks are silicone-free, and offer high color strength and brilliance.
RUCO also launched its 905UV-LM and its 965UV/MA low migration rotary screen inks. 905UV-LM is silicon-free, and ideal for plastic films; 965UV/MA is a universal ink designed for a wide range of substrates.

At InPrint 2017, RUCO launched 937LED and 955LED-LM, two new LED screenprinting ink series. A two-component ink series, 937LED is formulated for decorating glass, ceramics and metal.
937LED can be cured with either LED or standard UV lamps. These inks offer excellent adhesion and very good resistance to chemicals, water and abrasion, and RUCO reports superb results in terms of dishwasher and frost resistance. 937LED inks come in 11 basic color shades, as well as transparent white, high-opacity white and black formulations and special effect inks.
The 955LED-LM low migration, silicone-free LED curable ink series is designed for printing on plastic containers, most notably tubes made of polyethylene. 955LED-LM meets the stringent requirements of the Swiss Ordinance SR 817.023.21, EuPIA Suitability List of Photoinitiators and the Nestlé Guidance Note on Packaging Inks. This allows 955LED-LM inks to be printed on the outside of plastic packaging for food and cosmetics.
RUCO also introduced new cyclohexanone- and aromatic solvent-free pad printing inks at InPrint 2017.
T35, a one-component ink, is designed for toy decoration. Pad printing inks of the phthalate- and chlorine-free T35 series were developed for the highly sensitive field of toy decoration, and meet all the demands specified in relevant industrial standards, as well as in the EuPIA Exclusion Policy, REACH regulation (SVHC), the Swiss Ordinance (SR 817.023.21), Canadian Hazardous Products Act (R.S., c.H-3, s.1.) and the current European safety standard EN 71-3.

Considering the stagnating market for its main product lines, RUCO Druckfarben had a fairly satisfactory year, although the rise in raw material prices due to currency exchange effects did have a negative impact on the company.
In keeping with the company’s strategy of continually optimizing its product range to meet the most stringent demands in terms of print quality, environmental compatibility, consumer safety and user friendliness, RUCO completed the gradual introduction of a new generation of particularly eco- and consumer-friendly pad printing inks. These new inks are completely free from any solvents, which according to the latest findings are potentially carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction (CMR). All the raw materials used comply with the requirements of the REACH directive and are in accordance with the current regulations laid down in the Swiss Ordinance.

Considering the stagnating market for its main product lines, RUCO Druckfarben had a fairly satisfactory year in 2014, although the rise in raw material prices due to currency exchange effects did have a negative impact on the company.
Members of the new product family include T120 (main field of application: bottle caps) and T200 (universal use) inks, as well as T35 inks that are particularly suitable for the highly sensitive area of toy decoration.
In 2014, RUCO launched its new 937UV-LED screen printing inks – a product series of particular interest to those in the field of glass and ceramic decoration. 937UV-LED inks are universally curing, which means they are suitable both for use on machines with mercury- or iron-charged standard UV-lamps as well as for curing using UV-LED technology. In both cases, the ink’s adhesion properties are available immediately after printing.
For the printer, this means a valuable savings in time combined with maximum process reliability. Whether cured under standard UV lamps or UV-LED lamps, 937UV-LED inks feature excellent adhesion as well as very good resistance to chemicals, water and abrasion. Excellent results are also achieved in terms of dishwasher and frost resistance. Due to their high level of reactivity, they allow for high production speeds.
As with all RUCO inks, the new series was developed in the company’s in-house R&D facilities and comes with the quality label “Secure in Print Processing,” which guarantees high stability, supreme quality and excellent reproducibility of print results in all printing processes.

Higher raw material costs are impacting the entire ink industry. At RUCO Druckfarben, raw materials make up approximately 50% of the costs of its ink. In May 2013, RUCO Druckfarben announced that raw material pricing pressures may cause the company to increase its own prices later in the year.
“There is hardly any potential left where we can further enhance our material productivity and optimize our products and purchasing processes. Even though we emphatically continue to advance our internal measures, we can no longer rule out the possibility that we may be forced to pass on future cost increases to a certain extent,” said Jürgen Schmidkunz, chief operating officer at RUCO.
RUCO Druckfarben named Helmut Junginger as its new director global business in May 2012. A 20-year ink industry veteran, Mr. Junginger also joined RUCO’s board of directors.
RUCO Druckfarben is highly regarded for its environmental awareness and quality. The company introduced series 965UV-MA low-migration inks, 945UV-MA UV screen printing inks and 080UV-MA series of dry offset printing inks. The company is also developing LED-curable inks and a new generation of eco-friendly pad printing inks.
Series 965UV-MA inks are food compliant, and are ideal for high speed rotary screen printing. RUCO’s 945UV-MA UV screen printing ink is designed for decorating plastic containers, notably plastic baby bottles.
Ink series 080UV-MA was developed for dry offset printing on the outside of plastic cups made of polyolefins (PE/PP) and polystyrene. These inks offer low migration levels and conform to the stringent requirements specified by food company Nestlé.
At LabelExpo India 2012, RUCO highlighted its“3 in 1” system for combination printing: UVFX/MA flexo ink series, 985UV/NV high-speed rotary screen inks and series 960UV lacquers. In May 2013, the company launched its ready-to-use 900UV1437 opaque white ink to its label portfolio. It can be applied by UV screen and UV flexo printing.
