Ink manufacturers are often asked to do the impossible by their customers. For MagnaColours, a specialist in water-based screen inks, doing the impossible is just a normal day’s work, by using creativity and science to innovate in the ink industry. “MagnaColours was established in 1978, with the goal of making the ink industry a brighter, bolder and more sustainable place,” said Tom Abbey, managing director at MagnaColours. “With almost four decades of experience and knowledge, MagnaColours’ goal of revolutionizing textile printing and making the industry a greener, safer place is already becoming a reality.” Abbey said that developing innovative solutions to longtime challenges is the key differentiator that separates MagnaColours from its competitors. “MagnaColours’ forward-thinking, imaginative approach to creating products that overcome industry challenges in all aspects of water-based ink technology sets them apart from others in the field,” Abbey noted. “The business aims to address long-held, industry-wide frustrations, such as the difficulty in achieving the brightest colors and the best printing effects while avoiding harmful toxins and chemicals. “With markets across the world demanding sustainable solutions to the printing challenges of the future, Magna has shown its value through the development of formaldehyde-free discharge; the achievement of fine print detail without screen blockages; and success in printing in ultra high opacity and brilliant white tones,” he added. “MagnaColours is constantly looking to meet the industry demand for best-in-class products and services, and its high-quality, water-based inks are revolutionizing the sector.” Innovation is at the heart of the MagnaColours philosophy, and having recently showcased its new branding and business direction at ISS Long Beach in January, the focus on originality and advancement has never been stronger. MagnaColours is constantly looking to meet the industry demand for best-in-class products and services, and Abbey noted that the company’s high-quality, water-based inks are revolutionizing the sector. As part of its launch, MagnaColours introduced four new MagnaPrint inks that address specific problems of textile printers, manufacturers and brands, which the company notes were seen as “impossible” by many in the industry. For example, MagnaPrint Aquaflex achieves the performance of PVC with a water-based ink, while MagnaPrint ULF Discharge has been designed to avoid the use of formaldehyde when printing on darker materials, and features superior wash-fastness. MagnaPrint HB is a slow-drying water-based ink, formulated for use when fine detail and high definition printing is required; and MagnaPrint ND Soft Bases is an unprecedented, non-drying ink that can print onto white or pale garments as well as any PVC ink, but is far more economical. Abbey said that the MagnaColours team understands the value of providing industry-leading service across the board. The business has developed MagnaAcademy, an educational division that delivers screenprint training for practitioners of all levels. MagnaAcademy develops skills and knowledge with a program of certified modules that enable printers to explore new heights of creative freedom. Alongside this, MagnaMix is the company’s unique color-matching tool that allows customers to get the very best out of MagnaPrint inks, using revolutionary software to provide a flexible, bespoke service that is easy to use. All of this hard work is paying off for MagnaColours. “MagnaColours products have always been well-received across all markets, with particular emphasis on fashion and sportswear sectors, where fine-detail, high-quality printing is central to the success of a garment,” Abbey noted. “Magna is currently targeting a global audience, with renewed focus on the emerging ink markets in Central America, China, India, US and Europe. The need for different inks to suit disparate climates, working conditions and markets across the world means that there is a constant drive to refine and optimize products for the target market. For Magna, the reach is diverse, and ever-growing. “The future is bright for MagnaColours,” Abbey concluded. “Already acclaimed as a world leader in water-based inks, the business is set to broaden its reach and continue to expand with pioneering products and an imagination-led approach.”
