OLEDWorks announces that, in partnership with Marelli, it has been awarded the AutoTech 2025 Collaborative Partnership Award for the realization of the digital OLED 2.0 rear lights in the Audi Q6 e-tron.
OLEDWorks and Marelli worked in close collaboration to enable Audi’s vision of the digital OLED 2.0 taillights. During the AutoTech Award ceremony held on June 3, 2025 in Novi, MI, Kathleen Miller, global director of marketing for OLEDWorks, and Steve Muench, head of Marelli’s Lighting Business North America, accepted the award.
OLEDWorks worked closely with Audi to realize their vision of digital OLED 2.0 Atala panels with 60 individually controllable segments, capable of unique customizable digital light signatures and enhanced vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication.
Audi’s industry-leading lighting vision for the Audi Q6 e-tron lamp was made possible through close collaboration combining OLEDWorks’ digital OLED 2.0 panels with Marelli’s advanced electronic architecture with CAN-FD and Audi’s domain controller. This shift from multiple electronic control units (ECU) to a single domain controller with CAN-FD bus system delivers significant benefits in packaging efficiency, energy savings, and design flexibility.
“Atala digital OLED 2.0 panels transform rear lights into a platform for creativity, communication and customization,” said David DeJoy, CEO of OLEDWorks. “This industry-leading lighting solution is the result of close collaboration between OLEDWorks, Audi and Marelli, combining technical expertise and creativity across disciplines to redefine what is possible in automotive lighting.”
Audi’s vision for the Q6 e-tron taillight was enabled by 6 Atala multi-segment dynamically addressable digital OLED panels featuring 60 controllable segments each. This high level of segmentation allows for:
• 360 Controllable Segments: Enabling novel customer personalization opportunities. Audi Q6 e-tron drivers can select from up to eight digital rear light signatures via the MMI or myAudi App.
• Enhanced V2X Communication: Warning symbols and visual cues can now be integrated into the rear lighting system to improve vehicle-to-everything interaction.
“Our collaboration with Audi and Marelli is a shining example of how OLEDWorks’ Atala technology is powering the future of smart automotive lighting,” DeJoy added. “Multisegmented OLED technology transforms taillamps into intelligent, customizable platforms that elevate vehicle design, enable V2X communication, and redefine the driver experience.”
“At Marelli, we are dedicated to shaping the future of mobility through advanced lighting solutions, and our partnership with OLEDWorks has exemplified this commitment,” said Frank Huber, president of Marelli’s Lighting business. “By working in close collaboration, we have successfully integrated second-generation Atala OLED technology into automotive applications, delivering a breakthrough in both functionality and aesthetics.
“The Audi Q6 e-tron showcases the power of digital OLED 2.0 technology, enabling Audi’s vision of enhanced safety features, greater design flexibility, and a new level of personalization for drivers,” Huber added. “This achievement underscores the value of true partnership—bringing together deep technological expertise and a shared passion for innovation to push the boundaries of what’s possible in automotive lighting.”
