Following the transition of all its European sites to renewable electricity in January 2025, BASF Performance Materials is now celebrating the certification of its production sites according to REDcert2, a certification scheme for the use of sustainable feedstock in the chemical industry.

With the recent addition of its polyurethane production site in Malacky, Slovakia, the division can now offer its customers certified mass balance solutions from its ten plants.

“At BASF, we do not only talk about ideas; but we also deliver proof points. This certification is another milestone on #OurPlasticsJourney, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability and circularity in plastics. With that, we are ready to meet our customers’ needs in sustainable solutions today and tomorrow,” says Alexander Weiser, head of BASF Performance Materials Europe.

BASF’s Performance Materials’ portfolio is continuously evolving toward lower carbon footprints. This portfolio includes engineering plastics, polyurethanes, thermoplastic polyurethanes and specialty polymers. Certified materials from all these product groups in Europe can now be offered to customers.
