Printing on silicone is challenging. There are adhesion issues; traditional solvent-based screen and pad printing inks will not cure on silicone, and the ink will easily rub off the product. The only thing that sticks to silicone is silicone.

Boston Industrial Solutions is active on the R&D front, developing new ink systems for customers. Its Natron SE Silicone ink is designed for pad printing and screen printing on any item that is made of silicone rubber, such as wristbands, swimming caps and phone cases. Boston Industrial Solutions’ DC Silicone ink, which uses the company’s Dual Cure Technology, is designed for screen and pad printing of products that can’t be cured with heat.

“We’ve developed several silicone ink lines for printing onto silicone rubber using various printing methods, e.g. pad printing, screen printing and spraying,” said French. “These ink lines are superior to any other in the world in terms of compliance, opacity, available colors and ease of use.”

French said that Boston Industrial Solutions lives for challenges. “There are many challenges that customers face every day – we’d love to solve them,” French said. “There are new technologies that need to be developed – we’d like to develop them. There are many opportunities in the ink industry – we’d like to participate in them.
